Cholesterol is a substance found in the blood wherein when it is above the normal level it lodges to the blood vessels and the blood vessels will be hard and narrowed. Narrowed blood vessels where the major cause of many cardiovascular diseases. Hypercholesterolemia technically means there is an increase level of cholesterol in the blood. When there is an increase the person should be prepared for the next thing to happen. Visiting a doctor is the most wonderful thing to do because the doctor knows what medication is needed in order to maintain the cholesterol level.

There are types of cholesterol namely:

LDL or Low Density Lipoprotein, LDL is also known as the bad cholesterol. Bad cholesterol in the sense that it is the LDL that lodges to the blood vessels; hardens and narrowed it.

HDL or High Density Lipoprotein, HDL is also known as the good cholesterol. Good cholesterol in the sense that it picks up the bad cholesterol and brings it back to the liver, where it will be metabolize or be eliminated.

There are many homes remedies in lowering the cholesterol levels such as:

1. Having a Low Cholesterol Diet
Low cholesterol diet includes, avoiding animal products such as the red meat and its organ because they tend to have high cholesterol. Having a plant source food is great because the plants source food don’t have any cholesterol. Foods products from plants are rich in fiber and have zero cholesterol. That is why it is important to eat fruits and vegetable because they are nutritious and they have zero cholesterol.

2. Having a Regular Exercise
Having regular exercise is necessary to promote proper body circulation. When blood flow is regular it is good for the organs to have healthy supply of blood because once you are working out the blood is well circulated and the hearts pumps much better than the usual. Having enough supply of oxygen makes the blood much red.

3. Lose Extra Pounds
Obesity is one of the major causes of hypercholesterolemia, being overweight is not healthy because the heart works much harder compared to a person having an ideal weight. Since obesity is being overweight a person should lose weight in order for her/him to lower cholesterol level. To lose weight, one should take a look at his/her diet and daily routine, and modify it into a much healthier one, then set a long sustainable goal.

4. Quit the Vices
Drinking and Smoking are the major vice that contributes to high cholesterol therefore once a person quits these things they are least targets of heart disease. Though it is not easy to quit always put in mind that when you are born these vices are not with you.

These are the few things that should be considered in lowering cholesterol in the blood because though when the condition is really bad medication is already necessary but medication should be with these things, to make it more effective in lowering the cholesterol in the blood. Many times, certain conditions are psychological therefore always have the urges to make life better than it used to.

Majority of people when hearing about cholesterol, on their mind it is really bad and that they would relate it with various illnesses. The misconception is that cholesterol is not bad; in fact our body needs cholesterol in order to survive. Cholesterol is needed in the production of hormones and bile; also it helps in the metabolism of fat soluble vitamins such as the vitamin k. Cholesterol will be considered as a threat when it is above the normal level which is < 200 mg/dL, above this level is considered as hypercholesterolemia. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition when a person is having a high level of cholesterol in the blood, having a high cholesterol level makes a person prone to certain cardiovascular diseases.

For a person to have the normal level of cholesterol a person should learn to identify the foods rich in cholesterol, and formulate to him/ her low cholesterol diet. Foods rich in cholesterol are animal products, egg yolks and dairy products. Knowing these things, a low cholesterol diet should be like this:

Breakfasto	1 cup of toasted oat ring cereal
o	1 cup of skim milk
o	1 slice of whole-wheat bread
o	1 banana
Snack
o	1 cinnamon raisin bagel, 1/2 ounce light cream cheese

Lunch
o	Turkey sandwich (3 ounces of turkey) on rye bread with lettuce
o	1 orange
o	3 Fig Newton cookies
o	1 cup skim milk
Snack
o	Nonfat yogurt with fruit

Dinner
o	3 ounces of broiled chicken breast
o	1 medium baked potato
o	1 tablespoon of nonfat yogurt
o	1/2 cup of broccoli
o	1 dinner roll
o	1 cup skim milk

As you can observe, the majority of the diet is fruits and vegetables because plants products do not have cholesterol. Plant products are also rich in fiber which helps in peristalsis. Also, instead of having meat, the alternative of meat is tuna and chicken because they have low cholesterol compared to red meat. Tuna is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which is good for the heart. Dairy products are also high in cholesterol that is why when used of having milk, one should choose the low fat or the skimmed milk because they are made to have a low cholesterol level.

Many may ask how to lower cholesterol, and the best way to lower the cholesterol would be having a healthy diet, because the most common cause of hypercholesterolemia is the dietary intake. Therefore, to manage it one should have a healthy diet first and identifying the foods with high cholesterol. Though, exercise is also helpful, diet should be considered first because ones a person can control his/her diet, there is a great chance for that person to lower the cholesterol level. There are plenty of low cholesterol diet around but then a person should consider the availability of the foods listed therefore, what is around you, you can utilize it once you can identify the foods rich in cholesterol.

The term cholesterol originates from the Greek word “Chole” which means bile and “stereos” which means solid and the chemical suffix “ol” for an alcohol. The term was made by Sir Francois Poulletier de la Salle where he identified cholesterol in a solid form of a gallstone, in the year 1769. Then on, the chemist Sir Eugene Cheyreul named the compound “cholesterine”, in the year 1815.

Cholesterol above the normal level (< 200 mg/dL normal blood cholesterol, 200–239 mg/dL borderline-high, > 240 mg/dL high cholesterol) it is identified as a risk, therefore one should visit a doctor for medication. When a person has high cholesterol, the person is at risk of having a heart attack, high blood pressure or even stroke. Therefore, when a person is identified of having high cholesterol, a person should maintain medication in order to sustain.

In terms of having a low cholesterol diet, a person should avoid animal products because they are the ones having high cholesterol, also the egg yolks and dairy products have high cholesterol. Avoiding these foods helps in lowering cholesterol levels. Instead of eating, meat as a source of protein, having fish as alternative gives the person a low cholesterol and that there are fishes that are rich in omega 3 which is good for the heart, fishes like mackerel and salmon are rich in omega 3; with regards to dairy products, instead of having full cream milk ones should have a skimmed milk because skimmed milk tends to have a low cholesterol. Having a diet to have low cholesterol level is not easy because the foods rich in cholesterol are really delicious and they really taste good. They are not easy to avoid therefore, self motivation and self control are really needed.

The most effective ways to reduce cholesterol is diet as discussed above and the other one is exercise. Exercising is good for the body because it helps in proper blood circulation and helps in attaining the body’s flexibility. When the body is flexible, it promotes the muscle tone. Our body should have a regular exercise so that we will have a proper blood circulation, having a proper blood circulation is good because it helps us avoids many diseases. Having a proper blood circulation ensures us that the organs of the body have an adequate supply of oxygen, as we all know oxygen is the necessary for our organs and the oxygen is delivered by the blood so therefore, even 15 minutes of walking per day helps a lot in having a proper circulation. Even a small walk helps a lot because as long as one is moving the body it is already an exercise rather than just sitting and staring at the television wherein it is only the eye balls that are moving.

Lowering the cholesterol level is much better when one is also with medication because medication is really helpful, though one is on diet and with regular exercise, having medication is really helpful because the cardiovascular diseases are considered the leading causes of death and that when it attacks, it attacks in the most unexpected time of the day or in times wherein you didn’t expect it. Being prepared is much better than not caring at all because once you will know you have high cholesterol, you would really expect the cardiovascular diseases.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that’s found in the fats (lipids) in your blood. Cholesterol is necessary in our body because it helps in hormone production and helps in the metabolism of the fat soluble vitamins. Having cholesterol in our blood is normal but when it will be more than what the body needs that is the time it is considered as dangerous. Having an increased level of cholesterol in the blood is called as hypercholesterolemia, this condition places the person at risk of many cardiovascular conditions because cholesterol tends to lodge in the blood vessel, upon lodging, and it makes the blood vessels narrow that causes high blood pressure and stroke. When the blood vessels are narrowed there is an in adequate supply of blood in major organs that will lead to stroke.

Different books provide variety of ways to lower cholesterol levels but then the most effective way in reducing it is modifying the lifestyle because hypercholesterolemia can be inherited or acquired like any other illness that existed. Life style modification includes:

Having a Healthy Diet, a diet which lowers the cholesterol level, the avoidance of eating high cholesterol foods. Such as the meat and internal organs of animals because these foods has an increase cholesterol. Eating foods rich in fiber such as grains, fruits and vegetable. Having a high fiber food in the diet helps aids in the peristaltic movement of the intestine therefore defecation won’t be a problem. Having a good defecation process helps in the elimination of many toxins in the intestines.

Doing Regular Exercise, exercising in a daily basis makes ones body flexible and it helps in the proper circulation of the blood in the body. Having a good circulation eliminates the risk of having stroke because when the body is constantly moving, the blood flow tends to be smoother. Exercising also helps in the elimination of toxins through perspiration because when one is exercising the pores are opened and a toxin tends to flow out the skin. Cardio exercise is also necessary because it helps the heart function well. When the heart is well maintained by exercise it pumps very well, and it helps eliminates much heart condition.

Moderation in Drinking, too much alcohol intake damages mainly the liver but then when a person has moderation or will not drink it helps in the increase production of HDL or high density lipoprotein which is considered as the good cholesterol. This HDL helps in eliminating the LDL or low density lipoprotein because LDL is considered as the bad cholesterol, the LDL are the ones lodging in the blood vessels and causes the narrowing of the blood vessels. When blood vessels are already narrowed, the person is already a candidate of stroke; because once the vessels are narrowed there will be an inadequate supply of oxygen in the body.

Cessation in smoking, smoking tends to effects all the major organs in the body especially the lungs. Then on, smoking also affects the heart, and in some studies, it shows that smoking is also a contributing factor of having a narrowed vessel because of its content. When a person’s heart is at risk, all of the organs are also at risk, because the heart is the organ that pumps the blood through out the body, and when the heart stops beating all are affected therefore, we should always take care of the heart because once it will stop its beat, life is also over.

When a person is having high cholesterol, the doctor tends to give medication but then on identifying its cause and avoiding it is much better than spending much in order to maintain the cholesterol at its ideal level.

Cholesterol is necessary in our body because it helps in the production of body hormones and bile acid; it also helps in the metabolism of fat soluble vitamins such as vitamin D and K. Many may say that cholesterol is bad for our body but then it is really not bad, it will be bad when one has too much consumption of fats. High cholesterol foods are those of the internal organs of animals such as the liver, heart and intestines; while plant source foods don’t have any bad cholesterol.

When a person has increase cholesterol on the blood it is called hypercholesterolemia. Some of its causes are inactivity, obesity and unhealthy diet. Inactivity, it is considered a cause because our body really needs exercise even just 30 minutes a day to improve our blood circulation, when exercising our body eliminates many toxins and burns calories which aids in lowering cholesterol in the blood stream. Obesity, because when a person is over weight that person is at risk of many illness such as cardio vascular illness therefore one should maintain the ideal weight because when one is obese it is expected that the person has an increase cholesterol in the blood. Unhealthy diet, also a cause of hypercholesterolemia because when a person doesn’t have a healthy diet it is expected that the person will have either high cholesterol or low cholesterol.

There are various ways to lower cholesterol such as:

Having a Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is composed of eating foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals but low fat. Like eating many vegetables and fruits because these type of foods don’t have cholesterol.

Exercise Regularly
Exercising on a daily basis helps the body to be more flexible and it also improves the circulation of blood in the body. When the body has a proper circulation, all organs of the body have enough blood supply therefore it eliminates the risk of having stroke.

Drink alcohol in moderation and stop smoking
These vices are much common in many people because these days’ alcohol and smoking are within anyone’s reach therefore quitting these vices helps in increasing the HDL or High Density Lipoprotein.

These are just few things to do in order to have low cholesterol but then among these 3 having a healthy diet is much harder to do. In order to have low cholesterol diet a person should:

· Avoid foods with internal organs because internal organs tend to have increase cholesterol. In some countries, many are eating foods with high cholesterol but then being aware of it makes a lot difference than not knowing at all.

· Have an increase intake of plant producing foods such as vegetables and fruits because these foods don’t have any cholesterol at all. There are various plant producing foods that are considered to lower the cholesterol level such as the barley, artichoke and garlic.

· Have fish rather than meat because fish tends to have lower cholesterol than that of meat. Though both are sources of protein, having fish as the main source of protein would lessen the intake of cholesterol.

These things are easy to say but hard to do. Therefore, once a person will decide to have a modified lifestyle, the person should have the self control in doing these things because not being used to these things makes it harder for a person to modify its lifestyle.

We are bringing up an obese society. Kindly resist the temptation of having fast food or junk food which is known to contain higher concentration of trans fatty acids and saturated fats. You are paying to fast food restaurants for degrading your health. These unnecessary fats are not at all required by our body. High cholesterol levels cause a multitude of health hazards either directly or indirectly. So it is high time the people, especially the sexagenarian’s and septuagenarian’s take this issue seriously. It is the mission of every individual to pass on the knowledge of ill-effects of higher Low Density Lipoprotein cholesterol levels to the younger generation. Persistent hypertension or high blood pressure – a consequence of high cholesterol levels apart from posing a great threat to the heart is also a leading cause for chronic renal failure. If you follow the safety precautions for eliminating bad cholesterol it will become a habit in old age.

Both low cholesterol diet and exercise must go in synchronization with each other. It is a team game and not a one man video game. If you are lethargic to exercise how will your muscles develop? Will not this laziness weaken the body’s immune system? Your body will lack sufficient nutrition which in turn leads to fatigueness and weak muscles. Consider the other case of a person who exercises a lot without proper diet. He will not gain and will be maintaining the same weight. In rare cases it may even lead to sudden heart attack due to loads of strain to the heart. So give due importance to both.

So what modifications are required in our food habits to keep away hypertension?

Firstly desist from eating deep fried food items and eatables which require a lot of oil for their preparation such as potato chips, fried cashew nuts etc. Oil, during digestion process is transformed to cholesterol. Minimize Grilled foods. Always ask for boiled and steamed food.

Avoid eating meat, as its fat contains a higher concentration of bad cholesterol with chicken being an exception. .It is well and good if you can shun meat forever, if you have a wavering mind at least remove the fats which hang along with the meat. Those portions may be taster than other flesh but what you gain in taste, you lose in health. Beware of that.

The cholesterol content of vegetables is nil. These food stuffs also enhance the fiber content of the body. These fibers aid digestion process. As much as possible, steam the vegetables so that the nutritive content is retained to the maximum possible extent and additives such as oil are eliminated to some extent.

Try to check the amount of food or rice you consume. But for heaven’s sake do not reduce amount of fruit and vegetable intake. Be selective in eating snacks. Try to restrict the quantity of carbohydrates too. Rice, cereals and bread are a rich source of this nutrient.

Replace ordinary or milk bread with wheat bread. Milk may come as different variants. Choose the variant or type of milk packet which has low cholesterol. Vegetables do not add to your body weight. Therefore nothing is wrong in consuming them in surplus.

Having high cholesterol level is not fun at all, there are many health problems attached to this condition. If you are diagnosed of having high cholesterol on your blood, start to learn how to lower cholesterol levels and don’t forget to visit your doctor for advices.

Cholesterol is a type of fat synthesized by the body in the same manner as other nutrients are synthesized from the food stuff we eat. It is required for carrying out certain metabolic activities. There is a proverb “Too much of anything is good for nothing”. This applies to cholesterol level of our body as well. Say a ‘No’ to food stuffs rich in sugar content or harmful artificial oils which are enemies to your longevity. Always prevention is better than cure. ‘A stich in time saves nine ‘ – recall the proverb which has been taught to you in your schooldays. There is no gain without pain. So unless you are ready to spare some time in your hectic schedule for exercising it will be really difficult to live a long and healthy life. How will this practise benefit the health? Answer – By improving the heart rate and metabolism and thereby the efficiency of excretion process is improved enabling the body to dispose harmful oils.

As a precautionary measure consult your physician to find out what type of exercises are safe to you or best suits your age. For instance a person suffering from frequent backache is advised to avoid certain exercises in yoga. If you are under post operative care or still yet to return to normal health recovering from any surgery you should not lift heavy weights, which may worsen the recovery process. If your physician shows off green signal for taking up high impact exercises, then why are you still waiting? Chalk out the schedule for such kind of exercises like swimming, aerobics etc. Before performing alone always perform under the trained instructor’s supervision until you get accustomed. There is a dearth of trained professional in the field of physical fitness trainer. Be aware of this fact so that you would not err in your selection process. If you do the exercises in the right manner adhering strictly to the trainers instructions you will start enjoying the fruits of your efforts.

Unlike drugs, exercising does not cause any undesirable side effects. So it is no exaggeration to hail exercising as the best method to burn LDL cholesterol. In case you are not in a position to spare time for visiting Gym, don’t give up walking. On questioning regarding the health benefits offered by walking, doctors will give a long lecture. If you happen to visit a multi-storeyed commercial building provided with lift facility avoid it and ascend or descend the stairs. Car owners can park their vehicle at reasonably far places from the destination spot, creating room for walking.

The common issue associated with exercising is dehydration. Overcome it by drinking lots of water, fruit juices, curd so that dehydration doesn’t hamper your progress. A water bottle should always accompany you whether you go to office or park. Health is more precious than all other wealth and luxurious items in your home. So dont give any lame excuses for not exercising. When there is a will, there is a way. So if you are genuinely interested in exercising, you will always be able to find time.

A fundamental change in our sedentary life styles is necessary as heart attacks pose a serious threat to the longevity of people across the globe. Be firm in your resolve to stay way from habits such as smoking and drinking. Hope you are all wise people and will understand the ill-effects of the bad habits apart from elevating the Low density Lipoprotein levels.

The only good news that consoles us is that it is possible to prevent the incidence of heart attacks to a greater extent by resisting the temptation for diets rich in calories, sugar and saturated fats. You should remember that the exact cause for several types of cancer still remains a mystery despite the advancement of technology. So let the patients in the low disk category seek the help of drugs. Let others be on the safer side. Always opt for natural ways and try these ways to the maximum possible extent. If you always go for low cholesterol, low calorie, low sugar diet the fear of heart attacks will never haunt your minds. Olive oil is a boon to mankind by God almighty as no oil can match its degree of safety. Other oils may be tasty but may slowly degrade our health in the long run. The ultimate choice is yours. Decide in a wise manner.

Always destruction is an easy task but construction is a complex one. Same concept will be applicable in the case of increasing levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol and High density Lipoprotein cholesterols too.

B-Complex, (Niacin in particular) capsules or tablets aid in the process of restriction of Low density Lipoprotein cholesterol levels. There are also several natural supplements that will be able to help you lower your cholesterol levels. These tablets facilitate the dispersion of surplus fats in water reducing the possibility of the malefic cholesterol getting deposited on the walls of arteries.

If you are not interested in carrying heavy weights you need not go to gym. Don’t attempt to exercises which do not suit your physique and gasp for breadth. Yoga is easier, costs less and delivers more benefits than lifting heavy weights in Gym. However dont fail to consult a physician regarding managing cholesterol levels as persons suffering from asthma, sneezing must avoid certain type of exercises. Give foremost importance to yogas which improve blood circulation and burn down calories compared to other yogas which benefit various parts of the body.

According to Newton’s third law ” Every action has an equal and opposite reaction “. The same holds good in the case of philosophy as well as our diet. Our health to a large extent is dependent on the type and amount of food we consume daily. You are grown up adults and no more children. Hence desist from the eagerness to consume diets rich in saturated fats. Why to invite troublesome consequences like high blood pressure, coronary heart diseases etc? Remember one thing. There is fire at one end of a cigarette and a fool’s mouth at the other end. Yes. Bad habits also lead to elevated levels of harmful cholesterol. Act proactively and regularly monitor your health. Go for regular health checkups. You may be knowing very well that a person with diabetes or high B.P has a greater risk of heart attacks compared to other normal persons

When something is made a regular habit we will be used to it and the same will become the daily routine of the younger generations too. It is good if you always have oatmeal as the daily breakfast. In case you feel diet to be monotonous or boring weekly once or twice you can have other diets. Researches have proved that regular intake of oatmeal for a period of two weeks reduces cholesterol levels by a whopping twenty percent. Researches had been conducted extensively on other food items too.

Apple is the best among fruits. Studies tell that people who eat at least 2 full apples a day get fifty percent safety. Great figure, indeed!! This fruit is readily available everywhere, you might have heard the proverb “An apple a day keeps the doctor away “. Hence include apple in you daily evening tiffen. Garlic is effective in declogging arteries having fat deposits. Intake of soluble fibers which can be readily obtained from legumes are effective in combating the harmful cholesterol. Do not quarrel with your spouse for including lot of onions in your diet. Onions elevate HDL concentrations.

So there is no need to spend heavily for maintaining your health, especially cholesterol levels. Your longevity thus to ninety percent depends on your habits and activities and to a lesser extent on genetic factors which are beyond human scope of control.

Dont reject all the fats outrightly. Unsaturated fats are healthy for our body promoting the formation of HDL type of cholesterol. Be an alert consumer. In several countries it has been made mandatory by the Government for the manufacturers of food products and creams to publish all the list of ingrediants used for the preparation of those items. So be alert while shopping in the supermarket read the ingrediants content of any food stuff you plan to buy. If you are not able to formulate a proper diet plan seek the help of institutes which are exclusively dedicated for this purpose. Special belts may be used for shedding excess weight.
